May 16th Petersburg event

The second annual Dog Stroll & Bazaar will be held on Saturday, MAY 16th 2009 from 11 – 5 pm in historic, charming Old Towne Petersburg. Bring your canine buddy and enjoy a day of fabulous shopping and special activities in participating businesses, including kids’ face painting, doggie photo ops, local students’ art exhibit, and more! The Farmers Market operates until noon, and there will be a fun DOG CONTEST at 1 pm (costumes are welcome)! Volunteers from the Prince George Animal Shelter will be judging the contest, and prizes will be awarded. Family Dog Digest will be giving out free magazines and other items, and you might see your pet in an upcoming issue of the Digest! Well-behaved dogs on leashes will be welcome in many stores, on the patio at the Dixie Diner, and just outside the patio fence at Andrade’s International Restaurant. Water and doggie treats will be provided throughout Old Towne.

May 16 is also Armed Forces Day and many businesses are giving special military discounts in addition to the bazaar specials in stores all around Old Towne.

Start the day by grabbing a free goodie bag from the Visitor Center, located at 425 Cockade Alley, 804.733.2400 - open 9 to 5 pm.. The goodie bag will include treats, festivity & sale locations, and directions to Old Towne’s Appomattox River Walk Trail, a perfect path for your (leashed) pooch. This year the goodie bag will also include a self-guided walking tour up historic High Street, ending at a pet relief station at the High Street Lofts. (Please use pet relief stations or the free goodie bag to clean up after your pet in all areas of the City.)

This Stroll & Bazaar benefits the Petersburg/Colonial Heights SPCA (this is a different group from the Richmond SPCA and they are in need of food). Please bring pet food donations to the SPCA’s area – consult the day’s festivity list for exact location. Pets available for adoption will be on view, too. Pet food donations may be dropped off before the event at Signature Style Polish Pottery Shop at 13 W Old St / 804.733.4495 / open Tues to Sat 9 to 5.
